Template:Infobox

Final Fantasy V is the kind of page you would probably want to have on a Final Fantasy wiki! Unfortunately, this wiki is just a concept, for the time being. But while we're here, why don't you check out some of the features that this wiki could have? There's the infobox, of course, but there's also some stuff I haven't seen done elsewhere.

First

Isn't it cool that the game's logo is behind the page title? That's a short TemplateStyles page, using a vector image I've obtained permission from the artist to use here on a wiki. There's logos for the first 15 main series games (and a few spinoffs) ready to go, and in theory I should be able to make more. Naturally, any page that we want something like this on will need to be handled manually and per-logo, but the CSS should be quite resilient, and reusable across multiple pages that want the same logo. You can see how straightforward it is at the template page.

Second

Those buttons next to the title are an idea for handling version differences! Try clicking them.

This text should change when you do.Look at that! It changed!

And all that takes around the text you want to change is

<span class="vdiff-1 vdiff">This text should change when you do.</span> <span class="vdiff-2 vdiff">Look at that! It changed!</span>

Which is trivial to make into a template. This way, game versions that don't have any significant narrative or graphical changes won't require entirely new pages or contrived tables in order to show off minor changes to stats, or locations. The buttons are currently using the indicators feature, but with a bit of extra work they could be moved to a separate element entirely, and maybe even duplicated wherever they're needed on the page. How they look will need to be settled on, but that should be fun!

Here's the logo again, to show off how item frames look.

Third

I've been working on ideas for integrating screenshot-based sourcing into the site. Mouse over this[1] reference.

Assuming it worked (might take a second try), you get the idea. Those images are down at the bottom of the page, under a collapse. In all honesty, I'd like to explore better ways of doing this, but I think this demonstrates the principle well enough. Instead of relying on lengthy text descriptions for the locations of items or enemies, pop-up screenshots can take clutter off the page and encourage primary sourcing.

There's more little things, but I mostly want to demonstrate that while these things are all possible on existing skins, having a custom skin makes features like this much, much easier to develop. All kinds of things are not just doable, but doable with minimal jank and unstable code, in ways that are responsive to different devices and aesthetically pleasing to boot. I think it's a good idea!
